Everton's eye-catching Marouane Fellaini looks set to be the subject of a tug of love scrap between Manchester United and Chelsea according to reports.

The big-haired Belgian firestarter has had a mixed season - some startling performances, and some shocking incidents of onfield violence - but both the Blues and United are thought to be ready to splash the cash for his unique combination of talents.

According to a report in The Times, it's Chelsea who are leading the chase - but the Manchester Evening News put United at the front of the pack.

Both clubs have issues with elderly types clogging up midfield as they shuffle towards retirement - Frank Lampard for Chelsea, and Paul Scholes for United.

Reports state that though the 25-year-old Fellaini signed a five-year deal at Goodison Park in 2011, it contained a get-out clause that would force Everton to accept a bid of £22million or more from a club playing Champions League football.

Whether that description still includes Chelsea is a matter for the lawyers, but having secured the services of Demba Ba in a similar buy-out clause coup, the Blues are thought to be fired-up for another cheap-as-chips 'automatic' purchase.
