Manchester City have told Swansea that they will have to pay £13million to land Wilfried Bony after rejecting the Welsh club’s opening bid for the striker.

Sunday Mirror Sport understands that the Swans have had a £10m offer knocked back. City want to recoup as much cash as possible for a player who has scored just 10 goals for the club since arriving from the Liberty Stadium for £28m in January 2015.

And with Istanbul rivals Fenerbahce and Besiktas both vying to take the 28-year-old to Turkey, the Blues reckon they will get their asking price.

City know that Swansea will need to recruit more firepower once Gylfi Sigurdsson completes his £48m switch to Everton.

There is also strong interest from China.

But Bony would prefer a move back to South Wales rather than a big-money pay-day in the Far East.

He rejected overtures from Chinese Super League clubs last winter when a season-long loan spell at Stoke descended into another nightmare.

He scored just two goals for the Potters and was left out of the squad by Mark Hughes after going to play in the African Cup of Nations - despite the fact that Stoke were picking up his £120,000-a-week wages in full.

Yet Bony forged a formidable reputation at Swansea after being snapped up for £13m from Vitesse Arnhem in the summer of 2013.

He was the Premier League’s leading goalscorer in 2014, scoring 20 goals in the calender year.
