Manchester United and rivals City are two of the clubs vying for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to the player's agent.

The Spanish-born Serbian midfielder, 22, has emerged as a key figure for the Italian club during the last 18 months.

Last season he made 38 appearances for the Biancocelesti, scoring seven times, and has even worn the captain's armband in the early part of the new campaign, in which Lazio are unbeaten.

Milinkovic-Savis is represented by ex-Chelsea and PSV striker MatejacKezman, who told Radio CRC: “There’s been a lot of interest from several clubs, such as those in Madrid, Manchester and Milan.

“But he wants to be happy, to play to keep growing and become one of the best in his role.

“It’s difficult to see him away from Lazio, where he has started the season very well, but I can’t rule out him leaving.

“If Milinkovic-Savic keeps this up, there will be plenty of contact from different clubs, like there was [in the summer].

“We’ll see what happens but, for now, what matters is that he’s growing under [Simone] Inzaghi, who’s a great coach.

“Right now, Milinkovic-Savic is happy to continue his adventure in Rome with Lazio.

"Igli Tare is sometimes criticised, but he’s done a great job.

“He signed some great players and sold those that weren’t happy at extraordinary prices; now Lazio’s bench is better and they can fight to finish in the top two and win the Europa League.”

Milinkovic-Savic was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool in the summer and it's understood scouts have been to watch him in action in the early part of the season.
