Harry Kane has revealed the sacrifices he has made in order to score more goals than Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

The Tottenham striker bagged 56 last year while Messi hit 54 and Ronaldo finished 2017 with 53.

And Kane admitted his success was down to sheer hard work.

"To beat them is something I’m proud of. It’s about doing it every year, and not just beating them [individually] but winning as many trophies as they’ve won,” he said in an interview with ESPN.

“I've sacrificed most of my time, especially with the schedule of games. You come in, you train, you play, you recover, you rest.

“That’s a footballer’s life. I don’t complain. I love doing it. But you lose the social part of your life. Not every player does what I do — some players may go out, go for meals.”

Tottenham's last trophy was the 2008 League Cup – and last won the FA Cup when Gary Lineker and Paul Gascoigne were in the team.

Asked what Spurs need to do to keep him happy, Kane replied recently: “I’ve always said: keep progressing, keep getting better, start winning trophies.

"That’s the aim, as long as the club keep doing that then, yeah I’m happy here.”
