Manchester City's Fernandinho has agreed a new contract – after Pep Guardiola hailed the Brazilian as one of the best three defensive midfielders in the world.

Fernandinho, 32, who will become a free agent next summer, has been in talks with City for the last 12 months about extending his stay at the Etihad.

And Mirror Sport can reveal that the terms of a new one-year extension have now been sealed.

The deal will be signed once Fernandinho has resolved a business issue back in Brazil.

But he has told City he will put pen to paper after Guardiola paid tribute to the player who is the glue that holds the club’s attacking array of midfield talent together.

Guardiola said: “Right now Fernandinho is one of the best, best, best three holding midfield players.

“With his mentality he gives us a lot. With the ball, without the ball. In terms of many things we need to compete.’’
