Diego Costa is set to be stuck at Chelsea until January after seeing his hope of an escape to Fenerbachce dashed.

The Turkish side were chasing want-away Blues striker Costa ahead of today's closure of their transfer window and claimed at one stage that a deal was "very close".

But those talks collapsed and Fenerbachce have moved on quickly to strike a season-long loan deal with Spurs for their frontman Vincent Janssen.

Costa, 28, is desperate to escape Chelsea after being told he is no longer part of boss Antonio Conte's plans in a text from the Italian.

He has refused to return to the club since the summer, remained in Brazil and racked up a number of fines for going AWOL.

Costa wants to join Atletico Madrid though they can't register players until January due to a transfer ban and a loan move to Turkey was one potential solution to the saga for the frontman and Chelsea.

Though that options looks to have disappeared after Fenerbahce's move for Janssen, increasing the pressure on Costa to concede defeat and come back to England and resolve his future.

A Fenerbahce statement read: "Our club, in principle, has agreed with the player himself and his club on the loaning of Dutch national team striker Vincent Janssen from Premier League team Tottenham Hotspur.

"The 23-year-old striker will arrive at Istanbul Ataturk Airport at 12:30 today [Friday, Sept. 8] and negotiations will continue in Istanbul."
