Jack Wilshere has emerged as a shock Deadline Day target for Birmingham City .

Agent Darren Dein - son of former Arsenal big-wig David - has a major say at the Championship club these days.

And it seems as though he is putting those links to the Gunners to good use.

Wilshere is the latest big name under consideration by Brum chief Harry Redknapp in what would be a sensational loan deal.

The wages being commanded by the England international are sky-high by Championship standards and it does seem highly unlikely that Brum will be able to meet all of his estimated £90,000-a-week deal.

However, they have put together a significant package for Brentford's Jota and if there is not a fee involved, it may be that the club can, indeed, stretch to meeting that kind of outlay.

If it does, it will be a staggering statement of intent - particularly as just three seasons ago former boss Lee Clark was trying to piece together a squad to stay in the Championship without paying a penny in a transfer fee offering players a maximum wage of £5,000-a-week.

West Ham are another club understood to be monitoring Wilshere's movements but no formal offer has been made as of yet.

Birmingham, meanwhile, have also been linked with former Arsenal midfielder Alex Song.
