Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is poised to land one of La Liga’s hottest young talents from Barcelona for just £2.6million.
Central midfielder Carles Alena, 19, is currently rated as the most promising talent to have come out of the Spanish giants’ La Masia academy for some time.
He is refusing to sign a new deal with the Spanish giants with his current terms expiring in 12 months. Although he is left-footed, he is also comfortable on the right of midfield.
Alena’s current deal has a release clause of just €3million (£2.6million). After July 1 that figure increases to £10.5million.
It means Pochettino could steal in to sign Alena before the end of this month for a bargain fee.
Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez is also a big fan and has been following the teenage for several months along with Everton boss Ronald Koeman.
Alena was given his first-team debut by Luis Enrique last season and appeared a total of four times. He netted with a fine strike in the 1-1 draw at Hercules in the Copa Del Rey in November.
