This current Arsenal side has more quality than the legendary Invincibles team.

That's according to Gunners midfielder Robert Pires, who believes his former boss Arsene Wenger is close to getting it right once more.

Back in the 2003/04 season, Arsenal went the entire campaign without being beaten, becoming the first and only Premier League side in which to do so.

For the most part, this current crop of Gunners players have failed to live up to the dizzying heights of their predecessors.

But Pires is convinced this isn't down to a lack of quality, rather a lack of leaders.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, the former France international said: "I think this team have more quality than my teams.

"Even in 2003-04. But they need more character, more spirit, more warriors. That comes from the heart.

"In my teams we had [Patrick] Vieira, Ray Parlour, Lee Dixon, Martin Keown, Gilberto Silva, Tony Adams, Dennis Bergkamp was a leader with his quality.

"And even Freddie Ljungberg was a warrior.

"I'm not a warrior but it comes naturally to people like Patrick, like Adams. You need the mix between that and the quality. That's very important."
