Paul Pogba wants Adnan Januzaj to return to Old Trafford and make a success of his Manchester United career, the Belgian youngster has claimed.

The duo played together in United's reserves but their careers have gone in drastically different directions over the past few years.

Januzaj, 21, broke into the United team in 2013 while Pogba, 23, was continuing his development at Juventus, but Januzaj's career has stalled in the time since David Moyes was sacked as Red Devils manager in April 2014.

Pogba, on the other hand, is a regular in Jose Mourinho's team after returning to United in a world-record £89million transfer in the summer.

Januzaj is currently on a season-long loan at Sunderland, where he has struggled for consistency, but he still harbours aspirations of making the grade with the 20-time English champions.

“He (Pogba) is a very good friend. At United, we were always together. We went to dinner together, played the PlayStation. He was a brother to me," Januzaj told The Sun.

“Of course, Paul asks if I’ll be back at Manchester United. He wants to play with me. But I am now at Sunderland and I have to do what’s right for the club."

Januzaj has 18 months left on the five-year contract he signed at United in October 2013, a move which saw the Red Devils praised for tying down one of the biggest prospects in world football.

Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid were mooted as potential suitors, but the youngster's stock has fallen dramatically over the past three years and he has a lot to prove if he is to remain at United beyond this summer.

“My goal is always to play at Manchester United. But you should always keep your ears open and keep options open," Januzaj added.

“You cannot play for the future. I have a contract until 2018. There are many clubs interested. It is up to me to work, the rest will come."

French sides Lyon and Marseille are both understood to be monitoring Januzaj's situation.
