Manchester United eased into the Champions League in the end with victory over Ajax in the Europa League final.

That means there could be five teams in the group stage of the tournament from England, providing Liverpool can overcome a play-off.

Only Chelsea will be seeded - as the champions - which means the other sides could face a daunting task with some of Europe's biggest teams lurking in pot one.

With no teams in this season's semi-finals from England, next season could prove to be the return of Premier League sides being relevant in Europe's top competition.

Chelsea

As champions, Chelsea enter the competition's group stage automatically and sit in pot one with the other winners of Europe's top leagues.

Manchester City

Also a second seed, Pep Guardiola's side are used to facing a European giant in the group stage of the tournament, though this time Barcelona will not be able to be drawn in their group.

Toughest possible group: Real Madrid, Napoli, RB Leipzig

Manchester United

Having squeezed into the group stage via the back door, United will not be too bothered who they get in the group stage.

Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp's side held off Arsenal to claim the fourth and final spot via the Premier League and he will be keen to perform better than their last season in the competition, which involved a disastrous group stage exit.

The Reds will face an unseeded side, having held on to a top five berth to give them an easier play-off tie in theory.
