Furious Louis van Gaal condemned his Manchester United players for failing to finish off ten-man Aston Villa, saying: “Results like this cost you the title.”

The Dutchman was seething that United ended up with a 1-1 draw after dominating the game at Villa Park, reports Steve Bates in the Sunday People.

And despite seeing on loan striker Radamel Falcao grab a stunning equaliser to cancel out Christian Benteke’s first half opener, van Gaal was far from happy as United’s six match winning run ended.

Van Gaal reckoned United should have won - especially after Gabby Agbonlahor was red carded after 64 minutes.

“We dropped two points. We were the better team and that’s frustrating when you are the better team and you don’t win these kind of games,” said van Gaal.

“When you want to be a part of the title race you have to win these games.

"We weren’t aggressive enough in the first half. We kept the ball much better but didn’t create too much.

“I saw the first of City against Crystal Palace, it was a struggle until half time but they won 3-0 and that is the difference.

"Maybe this game can cost you the title.

“You have to win these type of matches but there is still a long way to go and Chelsea have to go to Stoke which won’t be easy.”

Van Gaal was delighted with Falcao’s equaliser saying: “Falcao’s was a beautiful goal and I am very happy for him because he needed that."
