Jordan Henderson believes Liverpool will get over the disappointment of missing out on the title – and losing Luis Suarez.

Henderson admits he and his team-mates were distraught after Manchester City pipped them to the Premier League last season.

The Reds are also having to cope with the recent departure of the talismanic Suarez to Barcelona in a £75million deal.

But boss Brendan Rodgers has moved on quickly and has already spent £60m on signing Adam Lallana, Lazar Markovic, Rickie Lambert and Emre Can.

Henderson is impressed by the new arrivals and reckons they will help Liverpool make a flying start to the 2014-15 campaign.

“A lot of the players, the whole team, can take great confidence from last season,” said the England World Cup midfielder. “We’re disappointed we didn’t win the title, but at the same time I thought we were outstanding. A lot of confidence will be taken from last season, but we’ve got to start afresh.

“We’ve got a lot of new, quality players in, so hopefully they can bed in well and help us have a great start.”

Henderson was speaking in Boston ahead of Liverpool’s first US tour match against Roma on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old is happy to be back in New England.

He thinks he has progressed in the two years since Liverpool last visited the home city of the club's principal owner John W Henry, and believes he can continue to improve.

“We came here a couple of years ago, so I’m quite familiar with the place,” said Henderson. “It’s got great training facilities, it’s good for the weather and makes us work even harder. I feel I’ve developed a lot since I was last here.

“Two years is a long time. I’m more mature, I’ve experienced a lot over the two years. Hopefully I can continue to improve and keep working hard. I hope the next two years can be even better for me.”

Henderson will be joined in Boston by France striker Loic Remy, who is becoming Liverpool’s fifth summer signing in a move from Queens Park Rangers.

And the Reds are also set to complete Divock Origi’s £10m capture from Lille.

Origi’s dad, Mike, claims another club are interested in the Belgium international forward, but added: “Liverpool is still the most concrete option.”

Rodgers also wants Atletico Madrid right-back Javier Manquillo on loan, with a view to a permanent move.
