Dejan Lovren admits Liverpool "know what to expect" if they reproduce their calamitous QPR defending against Real Madrid.

The Reds were given the runaround by Leroy Fer, Charlie Austin and Bobby Zamora in their lucky 3-2 win at Loftus Road on Sunday.

On Wednesday night at Anfield, they are set to face the Bernabeu all-stars, spearheaded by Cristiano Ronaldo, James Rodrigues and Toni Kroos, in a Champions League group match.

Ronaldo alone has already hit 19 goals this season - more than Brendan Rodgers' entire team, who have scored 17.

Reds centre-back Lovren said: "Obviously, Ronaldo is an amazing player. Eight games, 15 goals in La Liga this season. But it's not just Ronaldo, you can't just concentrate on him because you have other players who are scoring goals. We need to be like a team.

"We will not play as we did against QPR when we play Real Madrid, you can be sure of that. We will be better.

"We cannot play the way we did against QPR because we know what we can expect from Real Madrid. Their players, we know who they are and we will prepare a little bit different.

"It's not daunting. It's a pleasure to play against these players. I am not afraid. No-one in our team is afraid. We respect their players but we will show something completely different on Wednesday."

Harry Redknapp's rock-bottom Rangers missed three gilt-edged chances to put themselves out of sight by half-time on Sunday.

Anfield icon Jamie Carragher later described his former club's defending as "a massive problem".

Lovren admitted: "It's the first time in my career I was unhappy after the game. Even though we won, we didn't play good. A lot of things are not right at the moment, but it will come.

"It was not an easy game, but one that we should have seen out comfortably,
especially after taking the lead. We need to be better against Real Madrid.
We need to show more."

Real's Gareth Bale is likely to miss the Anfield clash through injury while Rodgers must decide whether to put his trust in Mario Balotelli again after the Italian was subjected to severe criticism over his performance at Loftus Road.

But Rodgers said: “What I liked was he was in the positions to miss the chances. We have spoken to him a lot about getting in the box.

"He is a player that has always played with somebody around him and probably the best game he had this season was away at Tottenham, when he had Daniel Sturridge up there with him as well.

"His movement and speed creates spaces for him. He hasn’t really had that partner up alongside him.”
