Jose Mourinho has ruled out Manchester United making a move for Real Madrid star Gareth Bale this summer.

Bale has been a long-term target for United, who tried to hijack his £85million move to the Spanish giants in 2013 by offering £100m for him.

United have again been linked with a move for Wales star Bale but, ahead of their meeting with Real in San Jose on Sunday, Mourinho ruled out any bid for him.

After branding a move for Bale's Real team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo as "mission impossible", Mourinho said Bale was never a target for him.

"Yes, it’s the same [as Ronaldo]," said Mourinho. "You have contacts, you have feelings, you understand things.

"I think it was clear that Bale likes Madrid, the challenge, the situation, he’s in a club in a very good situation now.

"I never felt a desire from him to leave, so why lose time and energy on that? No."
