Jamie Carragher appeared to suggest Liverpool will sign Virgil Van Dijk this Transfer Deadline Day with a slip of the tongue on Sky Sports.

The former Reds centre-back was speaking generally about the transfer window when he claimed the broadcaster shouldn't have called Jack Wilshere going to Birmingham on loan "breaking news".

He added: "Virgil Van Dijk going to Liverpool will be breaking news later on tonight."

Now, on face value it seems that Carragher has pulled the Dutchman's name out the air to use as an example for his point, rather than made an announcement.

But given his strong connection to the Merseyside club, supporters believe he may have accidentally let slip the club's intentions.

Liverpool have had a very productive transfer window so far this summer, signing, among others, Mohamed Salah from Roma and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal.

They have also managed to retain the services of Philippe Coutinho - at least for the time being - but the club's fanbase are holding out for a defender.

However, supporters are now convinced the Dutchman is on his way...
