All eyes were on Manchester United's new £75million signing Romelu Lukaku as he made his debut against LA Galaxy at the StubHub Center.

The Red Devils ran out comfortable 5-2 winners in their first pre-season friendly, but the big news came when United supporters got their first glimpse of their new No.9, who came off the bench in the second half.

The former Everton striker linked up well with his new team-mates, in particular close friend Paul Pogba, and fashioned a few chances, but was unable to score.

Lukaku's physical presence is a big part of his game, and he left a few defenders trailing in his wake with some rampaging runs, but his finishing was awry on his first appearance of pre-season.

However, United fans will have been pleased with Lukaku's first outing and the confidence he showed in going forward, as well as the link-up play with his new team-mates.

United boss Jose Mourinho was delighted with his new man's first outing.

“He didn’t score goals but he played better than the ones who [did] score goals,” Mourinho told ESPN.

“Target man, hold the ball well, good movement, not selfish, team player, very strong holding the ball and not losing, fast on the counter attack - so happy.”
