Philippe Coutinho ran the show as Liverpool beat Brighton 5-1 at the Amex Stadium .

The Brazilian was in brilliant form as he provided assists for both of the Reds' opening goals from Emre Can and Roberto Firmino , before taking the game away from the Seagulls when, with the score at 3-1, he scored a brilliant free-kick and then forced Lewis Dunk into putting through his own net.

But it was the incredible free-kick which really captured the imagination.

Echoing a set-piece he scored against West Ham in an FA Cup match in February 2016, Coutinho snuck his effort under a leaping Brighton wall - all the members of whom had expected him to take the more conventional aerial route to goal.

And they ended up looking, frankly, a little bit silly as the ball nestled into the back of the net.

But what was going on in the little Brazilian's mind as he scored?

It started in the warm-up...

"Jesus have you seen the size of that Duffy? If I've got a free-kick and he's in the wall then I might have to do something a bit different..."

"Yep, I'm not getting over that"
