He may have come up against some of the world's most famous footballers in midweek, but Dele Alli once again proved his feet remain firmly on the ground.

The Tottenham star struck twice as Spurs stunned Real Madrid at Wembley, beating the back-to-back European champions 3-1 to book their place in the last 16 of the Champions League.

But, despite coming up against the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos and Toni Kroos, Alli was happy to keep his own shirt on his back.

When asked if he had swapped jerseys with one of his illustrious opponents, his reply was blunt: "No."

Alli converted the pressure from Tottenham's rapid start at Wembley, turning home Kieran Trippier's cross to open the scoring in the first half.

He then doubled Spurs' advantage with a deflected strike before Christian Eriksen made it 3-0. Ronaldo grabbed a consolation for Real.

It was Alli's first European appearance of the season following his red card last term ruling him out of the first three fixtures.

He said: “Obviously being suspended I was ticking off the games waiting to get back out there.

“I am thankful that the manager put trust in me and put me back in the starting XI because the boys were performing very well before. I’m delighted. It was a great night. I wouldn’t say the ban affected me but its not nice.

“Any player will tell you when you are sat on the sidelines and the team is performing you want to be out there helping, fighting alongside your team-mates and the fans.

“I was happy to get the two goals but, more importantly, it was a solid performance by everyone.”
