Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has revealed how Arsene Wenger has helped him cut out the red cards which marred his first season in the Premier League.

The Swiss enforcer was dismissed against Swansea and Burnley his debut campaign for the Gunners, with his Turf Moor red last January his ninth in three seasons.

But the 25-year-old has only been booked three times and incurred no red cards so far in this campaign as he appears to have turned over a new leaf.

Xhaka prepares to face Burnley again on Sunday and has revealed that Wenger has worked with him on the training ground to hone his timing after giving him video footage to study.

“You need these small tips," he told the Sun . "I’ve been here for more than a year and learned a lot from him, specifically on the mental side.

“The boss has done a lot. I’m a hard-working young man who believes in myself. I don’t think I’ve reached my limit yet — I can still learn a lot. He’s made changes, like to the system.

“It’s important for a manager to have players who can do that. I think, when a manager has been at a club for more than 20 years, he can only have a positive impact.”

The Gunners make the trip up north on Sunday knowing a win will see them move into the top four, ahead of rivals Tottenham who could only draw with West Brom at Wembley on Saturday.
