Arsenal are reportedly keen on young Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

De Jong broke into the Eredivisie side's first team this year and has caught the eye with his performances.

The Sun report that Arsene Wenger is interested in bringing him to London, but faces competition from Premier League rivals.

Both Manchester City and current champions Chelsea are rumoured to have sent scouts to watch him.

Wenger slams 'diver' Sterling

Arsene Wenger branded Raheem Sterling a diver as Manchester City opened up an eight-point lead at the top of the Premier League.

Wenger was left raging at two decisions he claimed cost Arsenal the game and branded the perceived continued injustices against his side as “unacceptable”.

City were awarded a controversial penalty just after the break when Sterling went to ground following a challenge with Nacho Monreal, with Sergio Aguero converting from the spot.

TV replays then showed David Silva was in an offside position when he passed for Gabriel Jesus to plunder City's third, with Wenger unable to contain his fury.

“It was no penalty," said Wenger. "We know that Raheem Sterling dives well, he does that very well. And the third goal was offside.

Arsene Wenger said he was sure Alexis Sanchez would have no problem facing Manchester City.

But the Arsenal manager was speaking more in hope than expectation, as Sanchez fell flat against the club he was desperate to join last summer.

Sanchez’s proposed £60million move to City fell through late on deadline day and yesterday he showed just how much he is still brooding over that missed opportunity.

Preferred to lead the line ahead of Arsenal’s record £52m signing Alexandre Lacazette, Wenger put his faith in Sanchez to go out and prove his pre-match claim.

At his very best, Sanchez is unplayable, a match-winner of rare gifts, which is why City, even with such a gilded squad already at ther disposal, did all they could to land him.
