It is fair to say that, back in the summer, you wouldn't have found many Liverpool fans who would have thought that Alberto Moreno would be starting for the Reds week-in, week-out this season.

The signing of Scottish international Andy Robertson was seen as the final nail in the coffin of the Spaniard's erratic Reds career, especially after he barely featured last season when James Milner was a regular at left-back.

But, incredibly, Moreno has experienced a renaissance this season.

His fine form has meant that Robertson has played just three times, with Moreno himself putting his upturn in form down to his "love for Liverpool" as he's begun to win fans over.

And in the Champions League, his attacking performances have been notable.

Because with three Champions League assists this season, Moreno sits at the top of that particular table, sharing the lead with Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Anthony Martial, Kevin De Bruyne and Ricardo Quaresma.

Moreno - who has no Premier League assists this season - laid on goals for Roberto Firmino against Sevilla, Mohamed Salah in the 7-0 away win over Maribor and Daniel Sturridge in the 3-0 win over the same opposition at Anfield on Wednesday.

And the Spaniard is clearly happy with his role as Liverpool's new creator supreme.

“You always want to help out your team and when you do provide an assist, especially as a defender, it’s something that makes you happy,” he said after Wednesday's game .

“Above all it’s evidence that you’re helping the team and doing well as an individual as part of the team.”
