A Harry Kane hat-trick sealed a 3-0 win for an under-strength Spurs team against APOEL Nicosia in Cyprus.

Going into the Champions League clash with no less than seven first-team players unavailable, the visitors toiled until Kane slotted home a Toby Alderweireld pass seven minutes before the break.

It was 2-0 just after the hour, when the England man fired a Moussa Sissoko pass into the bottom corner and he completed a perfect hat-trick when he headed a Kieran Trippier cross home five minutes later.

The win makes it two out of two in the Champions League this season, as Kane's hot streak continues.

Here are five talking points from an emphatic win for Mauricio Pochettino's side.

1. Kane hits his stride in Europe

Harry Kane's first-half opener made it four Champions League games in a row in which he has scored.

The only other English player to achieve that is Steven Gerrard and Kane is quickly becoming as important to his side as Gerrard was to his.

And it was another superb strike from the England man, compised as you like as he latched onto Alderweireld's pass and coolly slotted home.

It came at the perfect time - shortly before the break, with his side looking nervy against a very negative side.

That goal changed the game, but his quality shone through on his other two goals, as he netted a perfect hat-trick before leaving to standing ovation with 15 minutes left.

2. Bring on Madrid

Spurs win in Cyprus, combined with Real Madrid's win over Dortmund sets up the next two rounds very nicely indeed.

The Premier League side and European champions enter their double-header level on six points, with Pochettino knowing he has a perfect opportunity to both make a statement and secure their passage to the knockout stages.

If Kane is still in this kind of form on November 1, then their clash at Wembley will be one to enjoy.

3. Sanchez looks the part

Davinson Sanchez was Spurs' biggest signing of the summer and gave another good account of why Pochettino shelled out for the former Ajax man.

In a back-three alongside Alderweireld and Davies, Sanchez looked confident and composed on the ball and was able to use his physicality to get him out of any holes he found himself in.

The one blot on his copybook was a mix-up with Hugo Lloris, when the goalkeeper came rushing out to clear and smacked the ball straight at the Colombian, who saw it trickle past the empty net before De Camargo could get their for a tap in.

4. Aurier continues to entertain

He's only been a Spurs player for a few weeks, but Serge Aurier should provide fans and onlookers with good value.

At times he looks like a red card waiting to happen, but this evening showed what he is capable of going forwards, combining an excellent first touch and providing the impetus for most of their early attacking play as he looked to get forward at every opportunity.

Had his crossing been better (higher, mainly, as everything was usually too low), Spurs would not have had to have waited until the 39th minute to open the scoring.

5. Pochettino able to call on depth

For all the discontent at their slow start to their summer transfer activity, Spurs were able to show impressive depth with their starting XI.

Missing no less than seven players through injury, illness or suspension, tonight's game provided an excellent test for Pochettino's fringe players, who were able to come up with the goods.

This, plus the experience that the likes of Tashan Oakley-Boothe and Anthony Georgiou can take from the trip, will hold Spurs in good stead come the end of the season.
