Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang looks confused

Thierry Henry has urged Arsene Wenger to bring Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Arsenal this January.

Arsenal have been in advanced talks to bring Aubameyang to north London since last weekend but Borussia Dortmund are growing frustrated with the Gunners’ reluctance to meet their asking price for the 28-year-old forward.

Wenger is determined to bring in a replacement for Alexis Sanchez before the January transfer window closes but Arsenal are still £13million short of Dortmund’s £61m valuation of Aubameyang.

Asked about the possibility of his former club landing the Gabon attacker, Sky Sports pundit Henry said: ‘We’re talking about Aubameyang – we don’t know if he’s going to come or not.

‘[But] Aubameyang will bring you goals, runs in behind, and charisma. He would be a good addition to the team.’

Wenger admits it’s possible that Aubameyang could join Arsenal this January but insists a deal is ‘far from close’ for the striker.

Asked about the forward on Friday morning, Wenger responded: ‘I cannot tell you more.

‘We have nothing to announce. At the moment, we stay where we are. We keep our players.

‘We have added Mkhitaryan and lost Sanchez. Will anything else happen? At the moment, I don’t know.

‘It is far from close. It is possible we will recruit someone else but I won’t give you a name.’
