Inter Milan are interested in signing Manchester United playmaker Juan Mata this summer, according to reports.

The Italian giants are understood to be monitoring the Spaniard’s situation at Old Trafford with his contract running low.

His current deal expires this summer, although Manchester United can trigger a one season extension. Reports today suggest they already have.

However they could still be open to letting the 29-year-old depart, aware it will be their last chance to demand a significant transfer fee.

It could also be a way of freeing up space for Mesut Ozil.

The Arsenal playmaker will be available for free this summer and has been linked with a reunion with Jose Mourinho, who managed him briefly at Real Madrid.

The playmaker’s decision on whether to join the Red Devils could be swayed by his perception on how much game time he will be given at the Theatre of Dreams. The exit of Mata would certainly improve his chances of regular football.

The Daily Mirror, who report Inter Milan’s interest, say Mata won’t sign a new deal unless he is sure he has a bright future at the club moving forward.
