Arsene Wenger has confirmed Arsenal are closing in on a deal for PAS Giannina defender Konstantinos Mavropanos.
Speaking after the Gunners’ 2-2 draw with Chelsea, Wenger confirmed the centre-back has agreed to join the club and will be sent out on loan to gain more experience.
The 20-year-old is regarded as one of the best players to emerge from Greece in the last decade and was in London this week to finalise a deal.
Bundesliga club Werder Bremen are interested in taking the youngster on loan and Wenger confirmed that he plans on sending the defender out to get first-team football.
‘He’s not ready to play for us,’ said Wenger.
‘We’ll give him out on loan.’
The Frenchman was in a foul mood after his side’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea after disagreeing with Anthony Taylor’s decision to award a penalty to Eden Hazard.
The Belgian levelled the game before Marcos Alonso hit what looked to be a late winner but Hector Bellerin’s late strike gave the two teams a share of the spoils.
