Jurgen Klopp is impressed with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s mindset after the Liverpool star had some harsh words for his own display against Swansea.

The Liverpool ace criticised his own performance despite scoring a goal in the 5-0 rout of the Swans.

Oxlade-Chamberlain spoke of wanting to get more out of himself and admitted he was disappointed with his final ball on several occasions.

But Klopp, who forked out £35million to lure Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal in the summer, believes the Englishman has plenty of room for improvement.

‘Ox is a smart player. He knew it was not even close to his best possible performance [against Swansea], but it’s no problem, that’s football,’ Klopp told the club’s website.

‘Ox needs to adapt to the position still, that’s no problem. He has a lot of space for improvement. But it’s nice to see that he is really working hard on it.

‘He is a really hard-working boy and wants to improve. It’s good that he knows he can do better now we have to work together on it so he can do better.’

The goal against Swansea was Oxlade-Chamberlain’s first Anfield and his third this season as he continues to settle in on Merseyside.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is still fighting to earn pernament place in Liverpool’s starting eleven with Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Adam Lallana and Philippe Coutinho all competing for a spot in attack.

As a result, the 24-year-old has started just under half of the Premier League games he has been involved in this season.

But with a busy festive fixture schedule underway, Oxlade-Chamberlain will have further opportunities to play in midfield and improve.
