Sir Alex Ferguson doesn’t expect Jose Mourinho to alter his tactics at Manchester United, despite the current Old Trafford boss coming in for some criticism this season.

The Portuguese coach went on the offensive this week after seeing his side held to a 2-2 draw by Burnley.

It followed an exit from the League Cup at the hands of Bristol City and a draw with Leicester as the Red Devils fell further off the Premier League pace being set by rivals Manchester City.

In addition to falling out of the title race, Mourinho’s negative tactics have come in for scrutiny. The contrast with Pep Guardiola’s free-flowing side has only highlighted Mourinho’s style.

Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke revealed he recently spoke with former manager Ferguson about Mourinho’s tactics. He claimed that Fergie told him he doesn’t expect Mourinho to alter his ways.

‘He’s done that type of stuff as a manager throughout his career,’ Yorke said of Mourinho on beIN Sports. ‘He’s been very successful doing it this way.

‘I had this conversation with Sir Alex last week, and he can’t see him changing because if you’re successful this way, then why would you want to change?’
