Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has delivered an update on Alvaro Morata’s fitness ahead of the side’s Carabao Cup clash with Bournemouth.
Morata picked up a back injury in the lead-up to the Blues’ 1-0 defeat of West Ham earlier this month, but played the full 90 minutes at the London Stadium before missing out on the trip to Huddersfield.
The Spaniard returned with a substitute appearance in a 1-0 victory over Southampton at the weekend and will be rested at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening.
Asked about Morata’s fitness in the lead-up to the match, Conte said: ‘Yeah he’s okay.
‘He had this problem in his back before the game against West Ham and struggled a lot with this problem.
‘But I think he’s working really well, finding his best form. Tomorrow I want to give an opportunity, a chance, for [Michy] Batshuayi to shine.’
Conte confirmed that Charly Musonda will also miss the test against Eddie Howe’s side in the cup.
‘There is Musonda, he has a little muscular problem in his groin,’ he added.
‘Not just for today, but also for the game against Southampton. He’s out.
‘And then I think there’s no other injury worries.
