Gary Neville has urged Jose Mourinho to ‘damage’ Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in Sunday’s Premier League derby at Old Trafford.

City make the short trip across Manchester boasting an eight-point lead at the top of the table having won 14 of their 15 games so far this season.

United have enjoyed a strong start to the campaign, taking 35 points from 15 fixtures, but Neville fears their title challenge will be all but over if they fail to beat rivals City.

Speaking on Sky Sports, the former United and England defender said: ‘United have to win this game. City look at the moment like an incredible football team.

‘United need to damage that perception, they have to. If City come here and win, United will have a tough season.

‘Both mangers have to win the league, it would put big pressure on Jose if City won the league comfortably. United need to disrupt them.’

Despite City’s sensational start to the 2017-18 campaign, Graeme Souness believes United are ‘tailor-made’ to trouble Guardiola’s side.

‘United are tailor-made to get a result here,’ he said. ‘Someone needs to plant a seed of doubt into City.

‘They are a very good team but they are not without weaknesses, United can definitely get at them.’
