Paul Pogba admits he ‘hopes’ Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette misses Saturday’s Premier League clash against Manchester United at the Emirates.

France international Lacazette suffered a suspected groin injury in Wednesday’s 5-0 win against Huddersfield Town and ‘could be out for a while’, Arsene Wenger has confirmed.

Arsenal signed Lacazette in the summer for a club record £53million and he has made a bright start to his career in north London, scoring seven goals in 15 games.

Pogba says his international teammate has been ‘great’ for the Gunners and insists it would be a boost for United should he fail to line up for Arsenal this weekend.

‘Alex has been great and at this moment he is scoring goals and playing well for the team,’ Pogba told MUTV.

‘He is a big player for them and if he is not there I would say it is good for us. I hope for us that he doesn’t play because that will help us, but I also hope he doesn’t have a bad injury.’

Jose Mourinho’s United have won their last three Premier League games but remain eight points adrift of league leaders Manchester City, who scored a late winner against Southampton on Wednesday to clinch their 13th win of the season.

‘These games that are coming up are very important for the rest of the season,’ Pogba, who himself returned from a spell on the sidelines last month, added.

‘This is Manchester United and Arsenal, we don’t know want to lose to one of the big teams in England and they will want to beat us at their home.

‘But we need three points to get closer to Manchester City. That it is. Away wins help you to win the league so they are very important, and it is a very important game this weekend.’

Confirming Lacazette’s injury blow in midweek, Wenger said: ‘He’s definitely out for [Manchester United] this weekend. It looked like a groin injury. He could be out for a while.’
