Sean Dyche has suggested Arsenal were always going to get a penalty late on against Burnley.

Alexis Sanchez converted from the spot in the 92nd minute after James Tarkowski was adjudged to have pushed Aaron Ramsey in the back.

It is the second time in a row an excellent defensive Burnley display has been undone by a late penalty decision, after Sanchez scored an 98th-minute winner against the Clarets at the Emirates last season.

And Burnley boss Dyche was unhappy with referee Lee Mason and hinted his side were up against Arsenal and the officials.

‘It was highly unlikely it wasn’t going to get given on a day like today, that’s all I’ll say,’ he said.

‘There’s a lot of me inside, that’s raging a lot. It’s a coupon buster, I don’t think anyone would put a bet on that (the fact they keep losing late against Arsenal).

‘I’ve told them (the players) we continue to develop, we continue to move forward.

‘I’ve also told them this is the reality. Football’s a harsh game and sometimes it hurts you.’

Arsene Wenger did not share Dyche’s point of view after the game, insisting it was 100 per cent the right decision from Mason.

He said: ‘From outside it looked 100 per cent.

‘I don’t know why he pushed him in the back. I would like to see it again.’

The three points fired Arsenal into the top four, but Wenger urged his players to remain focused.

Wenger said: ‘It’s early, it changes from one week to another, we wanted to win away from home and we did it. Let’s focus on the next one.’
