Dele Alli was the star of the show as Tottenham swept aside European champions Real Madrid with a historic 3-1 victory at Wembley.

The England midfielder opened the scoring for Spurs in the 27th minute as he steered home Kieran Trippier’s marvelous volleyed cross from the right flank.

Alli, who has been criticised for his form in Spurs colours this season, made it 2-0 to Mauricio Pochettino’s side in the 56th minute after his shot deflected in off Sergio Ramos and past Kiko Casilla.

The double, Alli’s sixth and seventh of the campaign in all competitions, secured his place in an elite group of Englishmen.

Only David Beckham and Steven Gerrard have scored two goals in a single match against Los Blancos in the history of the Champions League.

Asked about Alli’s stunning display, Pochettino told BT Sport: ‘I think it was very good.

‘I told the media yesterday that my feeling was that he was coming [back to his best]. But it is so important for him.

‘It was his debut in the Champions League, a very good performance and he scored twice.’
