Steven Gerrard has hailed Harry Kane and admits he wishes the Tottenham striker played for Liverpool.

Kane, 24, is having a barnstorming campaign for Spurs, scoring 11 goals in his opening nine appearances this term, and many are arguing the England forward has entered the world-class bracket with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Gerrard has praised Kane’s ‘character’ and believes the Tottenham attacker is the perfect role model for aspiring young footballers.

He is the in-form player in world football, in terms of goals scored and how he is playing,’ Gerrard told Sky Sports.

‘I love the player and I love the character. I watch his interviews a lot and I have also met him on a couple of occasions.

‘I think he is a perfect role model and an ambassador for the game. I love the way he goes about his work.’
