France boss Didier Deschamps has suggested Olivier Giroud’s World Cup squad is under threat because of his decision to stay at Arsenal.

The 30-year-old had a number of offers to leave Arsenal following the arrival of club record signing Alexandre Lacazette.

However, Giroud decided to stay and is yet to start a Premier League match for the Gunners this term and has been used mainly in the Europa League.

Giroud was handed a spot in France’s squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers but Deschamps has suggested his place is increasingly under threat.

‘This is not ideal. his playing time is reduced,’ said Deschamps.

‘He plays the Europa League. I will not take away from him what he did with us, he has very good statistics, but I would prefer him to be in a club where he plays almost all games.

‘He made the decision to stay at Arsenal. It’s his choice. It can have consequences like all other players.’
