Arsene Wenger will not have told Aaron Ramsey to avoid forward runs in the match with Chelsea, despite the disastrous consequences it led to against Liverpool.

That’s the belief of Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.

Prior to the international break the Gunners were thrashed 4-0 by Liverpool with a major flaw in their performance the lack of discipline and poor positioning of Ramsey.

On that afternoon he played in central midfield alongside Granit Xhaka and the pair were named in the same roles for Sunday’s match with Chelsea.

Ahead of the game at Stamford Bridge Henry was asked if he thought Wenger would have spoken to Ramsey about his role.

‘No, I don’t think he will,’ said Henry. ‘I remember when I went to see him he mentioned he was playing Ramsey here [in central midfield] because he could make those early runs. He was allowing him to do that.

‘I would like to see them staying tight.’

Despite Wenger’s apparent unwillingness to give Ramsey directions, Henry believes the Welshman should know what to do and his team-mates should be giving instructions as well.

‘Ramsey should know better, [Laurent] Koscielny should say something, [Shkodran] Mustafi should say something, [Nacho] Monreal should say something.’
