N’Golo Kante has welcomed the arrival of Danny Drinkwater and Davide Zappacosta at Chelsea following their deadline day moves to Stamford Bridge.

After weeks of speculation the Blues completed a deal worth £35million to sign Drinkwater from Leicester City at the end of the summer transfer window.

The 27-year-old won both the Championship and Premier League title during his five-year stay at Leicester and was joined in the English capital by Italian defender Zappacosta.

The former Torino star made his debut for the Blues in Saturday’s narrow 2-1 win at Leicester and Kante insists he was happy to see both players join him in west London.

‘It’s always special to come to a new club,’ Kante said after Chelsea’s victory over his former side this weekend.

‘They keep training with us now and they will learn how we play. It’s good to have some new players in the team.’

Kante scored only his second goal for Chelsea against Leicester but refused to celebrate in front of his former supporters.

‘It is always special to play against my old team,’ the France international said.

‘Everyone knows I spent an amazing year here but when I come I try to win. This was an important win for my team and I was happy to score.

‘Thibaut gave me the ball, I had time so I went on a run and shot. I think somebody touched it a little bit, but it was a good goal and an important one for the team. I’m happy to help the team win.

‘It’s always a pleasure to score but I kept it inside because I want to respect my old team.’

Kante was named the PFA Player of the Year for his efforts last season and has made an equally bright start to the current campaign.

Spanish forward Pedro said of the 26-year-old: ‘He’s a very important player for the team, a very good midfielder.

‘He’s always running and recovering balls. He also scores goals and he’s a complete player.’
