Jose Mourinho is convinced Victor Lindelof will prove to be a big signing for Manchester United, despite not knowing him as well as his other summer arrivals.

The Swedish defender rocked up at Old Trafford for an initial £30.7million, joining Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic in being added to Mourinho’s squad ahead of the 2017/18 season.

Despite the big fee spent on the centre-back, he has yet to make an appearance in the Premier League and he looked shaky in United’s European Super Cup match against Real Madrid.

While Lukaku and Matic were players who had worked under Mourinho before and who had proven experience in England’s top flight, many believe the 23-year-old represents a risky piece of business.

But while Mourinho may not have had much face-to-face contact with the former Benfica man prior to him securing a big-money switch to Old Trafford, he insists that he had gathered plenty of information about his new signing that convinces him he’s the right type of player to succeed at Manchester United.

When discussing his summer signings, he told the Times: ‘Lindelof was the only one that I didn’t work with [before].

‘But in Portugal I control. I control inside information.

‘I know the qualities of the people, I know many things about social life, about private life, I know because even without working for that, the informations are arriving.’
