Chelsea have tabled a bid for Bayern Munich defender Rafinha just one day before the summer transfer window slams shut, according to reports in Germany.

Rafinha has made 204 appearances for Bayern since joining the Bundesliga giants back in 2011 but the 31-year-old right-back is now second-choice at the Allianz Arena behind Joshua Kimmich.

Antonio Conte was looking to bring Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Stamford Bridge this summer but the 24-year-old Englishman rejected an offer from the Premier League champions this week.

Bild suggest the Blues have now submitted an ‘official offer’ for Brazil international Rafinha, with Conte on the hunt for reinforcements at wing-back for the 2017/18 campaign.

However, it’s claimed Bayern are likely to fend off any advances from Chelsea for Rafinha as Carlo Ancelotti is keen to keep hold of the defender.

Earlier this summer, Rafinha admitted: ‘I hope I will be even more active this season. I have the quality for that.

‘I’m here to play a lot of games but it does not look like that at the moment.’
