Chelsea fans had to wait 74 minutes to see Alvaro Morata in action, though they may wish he had have stayed on the bench after an underwhelming cameo was followed by a penalty shoot-out miss against Arsenal in the Community Shield.

The Spaniard, a £70 million summer signing from Real Madrid, initially watched on from the sidelines as Michy Batshuayi – having been so prolific during pre-season – was picked to lead the line ahead of him.

However, a poor first-half display in which Chelsea lacked any kind of fluidity quickly saw fans calling for Antonio Conte to put Batshuayi back on the bench – but not for Morata.

Rather, many fans have called on the Italian coach to bring Diego Costa back in from the cold, with the former Atletico Madrid striker having been told he has no future at the club despite spearheading two Premier League title wins.

But after another limp showing from Morata, and with Batshuayi’s hold-up play once again called into question, Chelsea fans think Conte needs to re-think that decision – while other clubs can’t stop laughing at the predicament they find themselves in…
