Arsenal have completed the signing of Gabriel Paulista but, with Mathieu Debuchy injured for months and Laurent Koscielny’s fitness a long term concern, it is believed the club could still be in the market for more defensive additions this month.

The Gunners have been linked with versatile Borussia Dortmund defender Kevin Grosskreutz. Capable of playing at left or right back as well as in midfield, Grosskruetz would be a useful addition.

The 26-year-old is by no means a world class player, but at a reported £3.7million – he’d be an absolute bargain.

I don’t for one second believe Dortmund would even consider a bid of less than £10million, but if they would then he is certainly worth the money.

Arsene Wenger admitted last week that the Gunners could still be in the market for more recruits in January and Grosskreutz’ experience and versatility will appeal to the Frenchman.

Personally, with Calum Chambers and Hector Bellerin at the club, I don’t think we need to sign Grosskreutz – but we could do a lot worse. He would certainly be useful but I question whether he would want to join Arsenal to be a squad player.

I don’t think Arsenal need to sign another defender, but you could see the benefits of having someone like Grosskreutz in the squad.

His ability to play on the wing is also a useful asset, especially with Joel Campbell and Lukas Podolski out of loan.

I’d prefer to see Wenger maintain his faith in Chambers and Bellerin. Both players have shown their quality this season and are only going to get better with more game time.

Grosskreutz still young and signing him could potentially stunt the progression of both teenagers.

We have two quality left backs in Kieran Gibbs and Nacho Monreal plus Bellerin is also capable of playing there. There is no immediate need for a new full back despite Debuchy’s injury so if it were up to me I’d pass up the chance to sign Grosskruetz.
