Victor Moses has heaped praise on his Chelsea teammate Cesar Azpilicueta, and revealed just how key the Spaniard has been to his development into the Blues' first-choice right wing-back.

Moses spent three successive seasons out on loan until the summer of 2016 when the then newly-appointed Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte, handed the Nigeria international the chance to break into his team.

That Moses did as he successfully took on the role of Chelsea's right wing-back - a position he previously admitted he has never played in before - with Azpilicueta usually lining up behind him on the right-side of a three-man defence.

Moses has been sidelined with a hamstring injury which he sustained in the 2-1 loss away to Crystal Palace in mid-October, with Conte often opting to play Azpilicueta in place of the 26-year-old.

And Moses has now opened up about the extent to which Azpilicueta has helped him develop the defensive side of his game while praising the Spain international for his battling qualities and desire to play every single match.

In an interview with Goal, Moses said: "I'd say Azpilicueta [has influenced me most]. He played a huge part in my defensive development last season.

"He is always behind me, always constantly talking to me to make sure I am in the right position. When is the time to go and when’s the time to stay.

"He understands me. We established a partnership which was very good.

"To me, I would say that Cesar is underrated. As a defender he has got everything. He's quick, he's got that desire, passion for the game. He just wants to play football. Azpilicueta is never tired. He can run all night in every minute. He wants to play every game.

"It is great for us that we have him. He’s someone that loves the game. He is always talking to every player before games. He wakes everyone up and says we have got to go out there and win this game."
