Davinson Sanchez has been named in Ajax’s Europa League squad ahead of Thursday night’s qualifier with Rosenborg – despite his impending move to Tottenham.

The Colombian defender is expected to move to the Premier League in a deal worth an initial £27million, though that figure is expected to be elevated through appearances and achievement led bonuses.

That could see the deal rise to as much as £40m.

The 21-year-old missed Ajax’s season-opener with Heracles last weekend after telling coaching staff he was not in the right frame of mind to compete.

But the defender trained with his team-mates on Wednesday, and a manager Marcel Keizer is adamant that, if a deal is not completed, he could feature on Thursday night.

"The situation with Sanchez is obviously not ideal, but it is how it is," said Keizer. "We'll wait what is going to happen with Sanchez tomorrow and he is otherwise available for selection.

"I expect that fans will stand behind Ajax and thus also behind Davinson Sanchez as he plays."

Uefa rules stipulate that any involvement in Thursday’s match would not result in the player being cup-tied for Tottenham’s Champions League campaign.
