Tottenham set to break Manchester United's 10-year Premier League attendance record at Wembley

Tottenham are set to break the 10-year Premier League attendance record this Saturday as ticket sales edge closer to the milestone Manchester United set in 2007.

The Red Devils have held the record since their win against Blackburn at Old Trafford 10 years ago, which saw 76,098 fans witness the 4-1 victory.

But as Spurs prepare for this weekend’s clash against Bournemouth, ticket sales creep behind United's milestone thanks to their temporary home of Wembley - which has a 90,000 capacity.

The potential record-breaking attendance is in stark contrast to their Carabao Cup game against Barnsley where only 23,926 turned up for the game against Barnsley - a third of the stadium’s capacity - and 26,251 for the preseason friendly against Juventus.

The club acknowledged the need for increased resources following issues with its ticketing operation at Wembley, whereby fans complained of long waits for seats at the stadium - their temporary home while their new 61,500-capacity home at White Hart Lane is being built.

Other top clubs who have drawn in the biggest crowds during the Premier League season include Arsenal (59,324), Man City (51,640), Chelsea (41,499) and West Ham (56,977).

Tottenham's highest attendance currently stand at 70,724, sitting just behind United who lead the way with 74,974.

With Tottenham expecting a higher turnout on Saturday than their 2-1 league defeat by Chelsea in August - which saw 73,587 fans through the turnstiles - Spurs are advising supporters to arrive early for the 3pm kick-off.
