Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that he gave his new club-record signing Davinson Sanchez a trademark welcome to the Premier League.

The Colombian defender arrived from Ajax on Wednesday for a club-record fee which could rise to £40million - but the hefty price tag doesn’t make a difference for the former Southampton boss.

Ahead of Sunday’s clash with Burnley, Pochettino revealed that he let Sanchez know exactly who the boss is in one of his early training sessions.

"I challenged him," said Pochettino.

"Yesterday. We were playing a box and he was inside and the ball was in the air and me, bam, and he fall, and me with the ball!

"It's a massive opportunity because we believe he will be one of the best centre-backs in the world in the future. That is why we made the effort to try to sign him."

Sanchez could well make his debut this weekend as Spurs go looking for their first home win of the season under the arch at the national stadium.
