Mohamed Elneny has confirmed that Mesut Ozil has signed a new contract at Arsenal.

Though the Gunners are yet to formally confirm Ozil’s extension an announcement is expected shortly, with Arsene Wenger due to address the issue in his press conference on Friday morning.

Elneny appears to have pre-empted that announcement, telling BeIN Sports that Ozil had put pen to paper on an extension.

“I spoke to Mesut and he told me that he signed the new contract. He is a world class player on and off the pitch,” Elneny told BeIN Sports.

“He is a vital player for us and there is always a positive aura surrounding him.”

Ozil’s new deal, a three-and-a-half year contract, will make him the highest paid player in Arsenal’s history, with a wage of up to £350,000-a-week.

Its confirmation will round off an encouraging few weeks for Arsenal off the pitch, which have included the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund for a club record £56million.

Elneny said of the new signing: “We know that Aubameyang is a great player… he is a strong addition with Mkhitaryan as well.

“I have not met him yet, but I am happy he will be with us. I hope he will merge with us quickly to help the team achieve what we want.”
