Chelsea midfielder Lewis Baker has signed a new five-year deal at the club and will spend the 2017-18 campaign on loan at Middlesbrough.

The 22-year-old, who has spent the past two seasons on loan at Vitesse Arnhem, has sealed a temporary move to the Championship side where he will expect to gain regular first-team football.

Baker was part of Antonio Conte's squad that travelled to the Far East this summer for the club's pre-season matches, and featured in the 3-0 win over Arsenal and the 3-2 defeat to Bayern Munich.

Speaking about his move to Boro, Baker told the club's official website: "It’s going to be an exciting season, there are a lot of games in the Championship.

"I’m here to give my input and hopefully get the club back to the Premier League. Hopefully we can do that together."

He added: "This opportunity arose and I thought it would be a great one for me. I think in this game there is always high pressure and big things expected.

"I see this as a great opportunity for me to come here and show what I can do.

"I already know what the Championship is about. I’m going to give it my all and hopefully we get back to where we should be."
