Kevin De Bruyne has spelt out the importance of Manchester City beating Arsenal to take control of the title race.

City are five points clear at the top of the table and know victory over Arsenal will mean at least two of the four clubs directly beneath them will drop points this weekend.

Indeed, Chelsea face Manchester United at Stamford Bridge where a draw would dent both sides' chances of chasing down City.

And De Bruyne has challenged his team-mates to put City in the title box seat.

Asked how big the game against Arsenal is, the Belgium international told The Mail: "Very important. We've got Arsenal, and Manchester United have Chelsea so, if we win, it means somebody else is going to lose points.

"It's an advantage. It's handy to have more points and put pressure on others."

City are clear Premier League favourites but Guardiola is taking no notice of the standings at this stage.

He said: "How many games are left? Twenty-eight. How many points? Eighty-four. Eighty-four points to play for, five points in front. It's nothing.

"Even for the best teams in the world, in the whole history, it's impossible to maintain what we have done in the last two months."
