Jack Wilshere turned down a move to Trabzonspor in the summer to focus on salvaging his career with Arsenal.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger told Wilshere he would face a fight for his first-team place this season but was not actively looking to sell him in the same way Kieran Gibbs, Gabriel and Wojciech Szczesny were made surplus to requirements.
However, Wenger was prepared to allow the 25-year-old to leave and the player assessed all his options.
Trabzonspor manager Muharrem Usta told the website Turkish Football: “I held direct talks with Jack Wilshere. We wanted him on loan and were close to a deal but the move stalled at the last moment.”
Fenerbahce and another Turkish side, Antalyaspor, registered interest, along with Newcastle and Swansea. Arsenal were believed to be asking for around £15million to sell outright or a loan fee close to the £2m Bournemouth paid to take him to the south coast last season.
Wilshere is in the last year of his contract at the Emirates and Wenger has not ruled out giving him a new deal. However, he needs games under his belt and is in line to be involved against Cologne in the Europa League on Thursday.
