Borussia Dortmund have confirmed captain Marcel Schmelzer and defender Marc Bartra suffered injuries ahead of travelling to face Tottenham in the Champions League.

The German outfit toiled to a frustrating 0-0 draw with Freiburg on Saturday, with both Schmelzer and Bartra being forced off during the first half.

Skipper Schmelzer will now be sidelined for "around six weeks", while Bartra is a doubt for the Group H opener with a muscular problem in his leg.

A club statement read: "BVB Captain Marcel Schmelzer suffered a partial tear to the lateral collateral ligament in his ankle on Saturday against SC Freiburg, and will be out injured for around six weeks.

"Schmelzer was making his comeback on Saturday after a seven-week long enforced break due to just such an injury, before he was injured in the 27' minute by Freiburg player Ravet.

"Marc Bartra, who likewise had to come off, has a muscular problem in his adductor area."

Bartra has played every minute of Dortmund's new Bundesliga campaign, while Schmelzer was making his first appearance of the season.
